An anti-mining priest has been named as new head of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philipines’ National Secretariat for Social Action (NASSA).
The CBCP said Fr. Edwin Gariguez will be executive secretary of the NASSA of the Episcopal Commission on Social Action-Justice and Peace (ECSA-JP).

Education Secretary Jesli Lapus asks candidates to keep politics off public schools.
“I appeal to all politicians to spare the schools from any political propaganda and pressure,” Lapus said.
He made the appeal after he issued Department of Education Order No. 10, which bans all election materials in public schools as the campaign season starts.

CALAPAN CITY—Miss Oriental Mindoro 2008 Rachel Ann Bustamante is one of the 24 official candidates of the Binibining Pilipinas 2010.
Bustamante, who hails from Victoria, is also the 1st Runner-up winner in the Mossimo Bikini Summit 2009.
